Glassner Autumn Challenge - October 19, 2024

This is the 22nd annual century ride held in memory of Dr. Jim Glassner, a longtime friend and supporter of cycling in central Alabama. An MBC Member, Jim was killed in a cycling accident on December 16, 2001. We renamed our century event (which we have been running since the 80's) in his honor. He was an avid cyclist and the Autumn Challenge is dedicated to his love of cycling.

BBC Century/Time-Trial - September 7, 2024

Come join the Birmingham Bicycle Club for our 51st Annual Century.  One of the most beautiful centuries in the Southeast—now an entire weekend of events at a new location. This weekend comes complete with an inaugural Eddy Merckx style time trial on Saturday, five different main-event ride distances on Sunday, and a bigger than ever after-party. You won’t want to miss this one!

Main-event ride options include a 100 mi century, 60 mi metric century, 50 mi, 26 mi, or 10 mi ride.

Iron Maiden 12/24 Hour Race - July 6th, 2024

Whether you want a killer 24-hour solo ride, rip it up on course on a team of buddies, or chill on a Just Having Fun team, the 24/12 Hours of Iron Maiden has something for everyone! A favorite of Chainbuster staff, we look forward to a weekend of fun at Tannehill every summer. We pit right where we camp and have the entire Farley Field to ourselves!! TriStates 100 - June 1st, 2024

THIS IS OUR 20th EDITION of the TRISTATES100!! We are benefitting the The Saliba Center for Family Services again this year. The Saliba Center assists residents in the Dothan and Houston County area to strengthen families by providing intervention services. Their purpose is to improve the quality of life for the citizens in the region by providing coordinated, comprehensive, community-based, and accessible support services. The goals of The Center are attained by offering job search and workforce development training, adult education/GED classes, early childhood care, parenting classes, and other direct care services for children from birth to four years of age. Founded in 1994, The Center has served 55,000 families/consumers with community-based support services

Ride on Brian Smith Ride - Saturday May 24, 2024

The Hank Poore Foundation and the Tuscaloosa cycling community are thrilled to present RIDE ON - The Brian Smith Memorial Ride 2024. This event serves two purposes: to honor Brian Smith and to support the Hank Poore Foundation (HPF) in its efforts to increase community inclusivity through providing recreational opportunities for people with disabilities in Alabama.

Cheaha Challenge Gran Fondo - May 18-19, 2024

The Cheaha Challenge Gran Fondo is a ride for all cyclists, no matter your experience level in the sport. This ride has a bit of everything from the ULTRA course that features 126 miles of the toughest terrain around, down to the traditional 100, 84, 62, 44 and 24 mile routes on the Challenge course and the 50,25 and 12 mile options for the Chief Ladiga Cruise. Some of those distances offer the chance to ride up Mount Cheaha, the highest point in the state of Alabama.

Farm to Fork - April 27th, 2024

Extra Table is honored to host the 4th Annual Farm to Fork Ride and Run. Participants can choose to ride 62, 48, or 32 miles or run 5k, or 10k with us on April 27, 2024 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. THIS RACE FEEDS PEOPLE – this event raises the much-needed funds that allow Extra Table to continue buying healthy, shelf stable food that is delivered monthly for free to 62 food pantries and soup kitchen partners across the state.

Sunny King Criterium - April 13 & 14, 2024

The 2024 Sunny King Criterium event weekend hosts the Alabama State Criterium Championships, Master and Amateur Category Races, the Southeast Collegiate Conference Championships AND is the kickoff to the USA CRITS events calendar, Saturday April 13th, for the Pro 1/2 Men’s & Women’s fields. Sunday, day two offers a full slate of amateur categories at the Sumatanga Road Race and Time Trial, paired with the final day of the Southeastern Collegiate Conference Cycling Championships.

Skyway Epic Race - April 13th, 2024

The Skyway Epic is a Mountain Bike endurance race in the Talladega Ranger District Alabama starting and finishing on the stellar Sylaward Trail at Lake Howard. 60 & 100 mile-ish options. 10 miles of singletrack -> 10K feet of climbing -> 10 miles of singletrack -> beer, food & music Campout and potluck on Friday night.

Oak Mtn 3/6 Hour Race - March 16, 2024

Little Hammies BHAM Zoo - March 16th, 2024

Get ready for a WILD ride! Unlike our other Little Hammies events, this is not a race. It's an AWESOME and rare experience to ride in Birmingham Zoo with all the animals! This is a great event for your child to have a blast! I mean, who doesn't like animals?!

GobbleCross CycloCross Race: Sunday November 19th

Gobble Cross Race on Sunday, November 19th in Tuscaloosa! Register in advance at https://www.bikereg.com/gobblecross2023 Race categories include Men Open, Women Open, Cat 4/5, Masters (30+, 40+, 50+ yrs), Single Speed, Mountain Bike, and Junior categories (9-15, 15-19 yrs). The course will be designed by members of our local bike clubs and race teams! The gang on Heckle Hill will be there to cheer was you suffer! It's going to be an awesome day for racing bikes on dirt!

VeloCity Cycles + WAMBA Halloween Ride & Costume Contest: Monday October 30th

Come join VeloCity Cycles and WAMBA for a fun-filled, spooky Halloween mountain bike ride on Monday October 30th at 5:00PM at Munny Sokol Park. This is a night ride so be sure to bring your lights! Wear your best costume - costume contest at the end of the ride and fun prizes available! Following the ride we will have food and beverages available at the WAMBA BBQ area, bring a camping chair to stay and hangout.

We will meet in the parking lot of the Red Barn area and ride 5-15 miles. All riding levels welcome.

Bring lights as it gets dark early! Helmet and functioning mountain bike are required! Bring your bike by the shop to get anything you might need to get prepared.

Oktoberfest 5K Lead Out and Watch Party: Saturday October

Come join VeloCity Cycles Saturday October 28th morning to cheer on the Oktoberfest 5k run. The run will start on our street corner at 9am. We will open early at 8am w/ tents and chairs to cheer them on! We will also be the bike lead out for the 5k. Come on our and help make this a fun event!

The Five Points 50: Sept 23, 2023

The 5 Points 50/25 is Chattanooga’s Ultimate Endurance Mountain bike race. Racers will enjoy a grueling course packed with single track, climbs, downhills, rock gardens, and smooth flowy trails through the 5 Points Trail system, Lula Lake Land Trust, the Cloudland Connector Trail (including the 6.5 mile Long Branch/Nickajack section) and Moonshine Trails. Post race activities include camping, music, food and more.

Ride Yellow Charity Ride: Sept 16, 2023

RIDEYELLOW is an annual Infirmary Health charity bike ride. The ride begins at Halliday Park in Bay Minette, Alabama, with a 6-mile tribute ride. Individuals can choose to participate in only the tribute ride or continue by pedaling the 20, 37 or 62 mile route at their leisure. 

Rest stops are available along the way and food, beverages and vendor booths are available when riders return to the park.

Birmingham Bike Club 50th Annual Century: Sept 9, 2023

Come join the Birmingham Bicycle Club for our 50th Annual Century, one of the most beautiful centuries in the Southeast. Proceeds from this years event will be used to help promote cycling safety and driver education.

Our starting location is Ashville High School, located on U.S. 231 just south of downtown Ashville, AL.

Routes of 25, 50, 64, and 100  will be offered – all recreational friendly and scenic.

Sportsplex Duathlon for Kids 2023: Aug 5, 2023

In an effort to still provide a fun experience for our athletes we are excited to offer a DU athlon instead of a TRI athlon for the summer of 2023.  In this event athletes will run, bike, run instead of swim, bike, run! Unfortunately due to construction at the Sportsplex the aquatic center will be unavailable for use in the summer of 2023. Du or Du not there is no Tri!

What the race provides: Tri tag/anklet, Swim cap, Bib number, Safety pins, Helmet stickers, Bike stickers. 

5/27/23 – 7/30/23: $35/ child
7/31/23-8/4/23: $40/child
Discount of $5 per child when signing-up 3 or more children.

DCBC Hot Hundred: The Hottest Race in the South: July 29

The 2023 edition of the Hot Hundred will be on Saturday, July 29, 2023. The Hot Hundred offers six different route distances ranging from 30 miles up to our brand new Brian Smith Memorial Ultra 116 miles. All route options have frequent rest stop options supported by our fantastic volunteers.

Funds raised via sponsorships and registration fees support the Tuscaloosa Mental Health Alliance, a nonprofit organization which assists those affected by mental health through education, awareness, support and collaboration.

Le Tour de Cahaba: July 23, 2023

6 Route Options: 65 miles, 45 miles, 35 miles, 20 miles, 10 miles, and Slow Your Roll Family Ride (<5 miles) (each route is linked).

This year Cahaba Cycles is giving $3 per $30 registration to BUMP - Birmingham Urban Mountain Pedalers. The mission of BUMP is to BUILD, MAINTAIN, PRESERVE, and RIDE mountain bike trails in the Birmingham and surrounding areas.

Bump n' Grind: June 9-11, 2023

Looking for a MTB race to register for? We got you covered: Check out the 29th edition of BUMP N' GRIND -- Alabama's biggest and best mountain bike race weekend at beautiful Oak Mountain State Park!

Bump N' Grind is the primary source of funding for BUMP -- the organization that builds and maintains trails at Oak Mountain and 3 other trail systems in the Birmingham area. Your race entry helps us build and maintain these amazing trails.

World Bicycle Day Ride: June 3, 2023 @ 8:30 am

Join us for a no rider left behind ride to celebrate World Bicycle Day! 

On June 3rd at 8:30 am, we'll gather at VeloCity Cycles and set off on a leisurely ride through some of the beautiful trails and roads in our area. Along the way, we'll enjoy each other's company and the beauty of nature.

After the ride, we'll gather back at the shop for a post-ride celebration, complete with donuts and coffee. 

This is the perfect opportunity to get out and ride with other cycling enthusiasts, celebrate the joy of biking, and show your support for the cycling community. We hope to see you there! Please sign-up by 7 am on June 3rd so we can get plenty of donuts and coffee for everyone. 

Ride On Brian Smith Memorial Ride: May 27

The Hank Poore Foundation is thrilled to present the 1st Annual Brian Smith Memorial Ride - Ride On. This will be a special event honoring Brian, who embodied everything that the The Hank Poore Foundation represents. The Memorial Ride features three routes: 20 miles, 37 miles, and 63 miles

Ride On will offer a post ride meal from Robertson’s BBQ.  Robertson’s is a favorite spot for local cyclists, including Brian.  We know you’ll love them too!

Intro to Rolling for Cyclists: May 22, 2023 @ 7pm

Roll into the week with this restorative class — we will use a massage recovery ball (think upgraded tennis ball) to release tension. Learn how myofascial release (trigger point work) can be as simple as rolling a ball along tight muscles. 

Free class - all you need is your mat and water bottle. A block may be helpful. The instructor will provide the recovery ball.

9th Annual Tuscaloosa Kids Triathlon: May 20th

You’re invited to take part in the 9th Annual Tuscaloosa Kids Triathlon. This event is a great way to promote healthy, active lifestyles for kids – while supporting a great cause, Secret Meals For Hungry Children.

We encourage children of all athletic abilities to participate. Race distances are very beginner-friendly. Helmets are required and flotation devices and training wheels are allowed. All participants will be awarded with medals. Awards to top three girls and boys in each age group will also be awarded.

Wondering if your child is ready to try a tri? The Learn to Tri - Training Clinic is a FREE introductory program designed to train youth in the fundamentals of triathlons, so they can participate in the Tuscaloosa Kids Triathlon. The Learn to Tri Kids Clinic will be hosted at Lake Lurleen on Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m.

Packet pick-up will be hosted at VeloCity Cycles on Friday, May 19th from 3-6 pm. 

The Triathlon will begin at 9am on May 20th. Check the Tuscaloosa Kids Triathlon website for more info.

All-Levels: Yoga for Cyclists: May 15, 2023 @ 7pm

Let’s slow down on Monday, May 15th for Yin Yoga. This is a calm practice (rather than flowing through poses) that targets tendons and ligaments. We hold poses on the floor (or chair) for 3-5 minutes to achieve a deeper stretch. Breath work is also a focus. 

Class is free - all you need is a mat, water and a towel - other props (like blocks, straps, blanket or bolster) are welcome. Your body will thank you!

All-Levels: Yoga for Cyclists: May 8, 2023 @ 7pm

Calling all cyclists! Join us this Monday 5/8 from 7-8pm for an all-levels yoga practice designed specifically for cyclists. Our expert instructor will guide you through a series of poses that will strengthen and stretch your cycling muscles, with a focus on hip and spine alignment.

Tadasana 101: Yoga for Cyclists: May 1, 2023 @ 7pm

How is your posture? Standing in alignment (or “mountain” pose) is challenging. Injury, imbalance or even tight muscles are common causes of bad habits and poor posture. If you're a cyclist looking to improve your posture on and off the bike, join us for Tadasana 101! This class will show you the principles of alignment and move through poses that will help you take the Tadasana blueprint to your cycling.

Best of all, the class is FREE! Just bring a mat and water, and we'll balance effort and ease in this all-abilities practice. Don't miss this opportunity to improve your posture and enhance your cycling performance! See you on the mat! 

Intro to Yoga Nidra for Cyclists: April 17, 2023

VeloCity Cycles is hosting an beginner friendly yoga class geared for cyclists of any experience level. 

Join us for a free Introduction to Yoga Nidra for Cyclists class on Monday, April 17th at 7 pm.

Rest is key to our performance, and that's why we're excited to offer this guided rest practice also known as "conscious sleep" to help you reduce stress, improve your sleep, and explore mindfulness and meditation.

In this hour-long class, we'll start with some gentle movement and then drop into a state of deep relaxation with Yoga Nidra. So bring your mat and water, and feel free to bring a bolster or pillow for extra comfort.

Layering a long and short sleeve shirt is also recommended for your comfort. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or completely new to the practice, this class is perfect for cyclists of all levels who are looking to improve their performance and overall well-being.

VeloCity Cycles is hosting an beginner friendly yoga class geared for cyclists of any experience level. 

Join us this Monday, April 10th at 6 pm for a free, all-levels introduction to Yin Yoga. This calm, static practice is the perfect complement to your cycling routine, targeting tendons and ligaments (rather than muscles) for a deeper stretch and improved flexibility.

We will cut off the sign-up sheet once we have filled all 12 spots. Filling out this form does not guarantee a spot at the Yoga for Cyclists Class. Spots are allocated in order of first come, first serve. If we receive your information and you did not get a spot, we will send you a message at the number you provided to let you know.

VeloCity Cycles is hosting an beginner friendly yoga class geared for cyclists of any experience level. 

Join us on Sunday, April 2nd at 5pm at VeloCity Cycles for a rejuvenating practice designed specifically for any level of cyclist. This class is for people new to yoga, or those who are already practicing yoga! The class will help improve your flexibility, balance, and focus on the bike. 

Make sure to bring your own Yoga Mat, Towel, and Water Bottle.

Tuscaloosa Mountain Flyers Races: March 25-26

Come out to watch the middle school and high school teams race at Munny Sokol Park on March 25 and March 26th! The race schedules and information are posted on the Tuscaloosa Mountain Flyer Facebook page. 

ACA is looking for volunteers to help out at the race. Check out the link to the Volunteer Registration  for more information.

VeloCity Sunday Social Ride: Canceled

Join us on Sunday, March 26th at 3pm for a 31.5 mile “Social Ride." The ride will start and end at the VeloCity Cycles shop.

This is a experienced rider route that focuses on the social aspect of riding and creating a safe atmosphere for all riders. Experience in road cycling and helmets are required.

This week we are doing a chill 31.5 miles on the Sanders Ferry route to Dry Creek down Hulsey. It will be set your own pace and stop as needed. This route will have a section of traffic on HWY 11 and experience in pace lining is required.

After the ride, hang out with us at the shop and have a beverage!

VeloCity Saturday Beginner Ride: February 18, 2023 

This is a beginner friendly route that focuses on the social aspect of riding and creating a safe atmosphere for all riders, including kids! 

The ride will begin at 3 pm on Saturday, Feb 18, 2023

This week we are meeting at the Northport River Walk, a path that is 4.5 miles, but you can do as much or as little as you wish.  It will be set your own pace and stop as needed for water or a break. There will be no vehicle traffic, as the path is a multiuse paved sidewalk.

Want to be prepared for when you have a flat on the road? Come to our bike repair workshop and learn how to properly change a flat tire on your road bike! All skill levels are welcome. 

Please bring your own bike and tools (spare tube, CO2, CO2 inflator, tire lever), or purchase a flat tire repair kit from us! 

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • How to fix a flat tire
  • How to properly inflate tires
  • Tips for maintaining the lifespan of your bike tires
