24/12 Hours of Iron Maiden: July 1-2, 2023

Whether you want a killer 24-hour solo ride, rip it up on course on a team of buddies, or chill on a Just Having Fun team, the 24/12 Hours of Iron Maiden has something for everyone!

A favorite of Chainbuster staff, we look forward to a weekend of fun at Tannehill every summer. We pit right where we camp and have the entire Farley Field to ourselves!! Grab some friends, pack your camping gear and make it a weekend of mountain biking!

DCBC Hot Hundred: The Hottest Race in the South: July 29

The 2023 edition of the Hot Hundred will be on Saturday, July 29, 2023. The Hot Hundred offers six different route distances ranging from 30 miles up to our brand new Brian Smith Memorial Ultra 116 miles.. All route options have frequent rest stop options supported by our fantastic volunteers.

Funds raised via sponsorships and registration fees support the Tuscaloosa Mental Health Alliance, a nonprofit organization which assists those affected by mental health through education, awareness, support and collaboration.

Druid City Bike Club (DCBC) Rides

DCBC has road rides several days per week during their regular season with their signature rides on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Tuesdays: 5:30 pm from the Embassy Suites Parking Lot  in Tuscaloosa, various distances and speeds. Starts together then splits into groups by desired distance and speed. Fun for everyone!

Wednesdays: 5:30 pm themed rides with varying start locations, distances, and speeds.

Thursdays: 5:30 pm rides from the Embassy Suites Parking Lot that typically head northwest toward Tuscaloosa County High School.

Saturday: Varying times, distances, and locations. Cross country rides with different pace groups. A social and physical experience! Good for building endurance and getting to know other cyclists!

West Alabama Mountain Bike Association (WAMBA) Rides

All rides will be at Munny Sokol Park and meet at 5:30 pm. These are evening/night rides, so come prepared with bright headlights during winter season when it gets dark early. 

Monday: This is a great beginner ride!

Wednesday: Intermediate ride night.

Thursday: "Catch me if you can," experienced level ride.  

This is a members only ride, but joining WAMBA is quick, easy, and very affordable, at just $39/year for individual membership.

Little Bellas

The Tuscaloosa Weekly Mountain Bike Program meets at Munny Sokol Mountain Bike Trails and is open to girls of all abilities. The program offers eight recurring mountain biking sessions throughout the season and focuses on allowing each girl to learn new skills and build confidence, all in a positive, fun environment. The first practice is March 23.  

Thursday: 6-8 pm at Munny Sokol Trails. Snacks will be provided. 

This is a members only team, but joining Little Bellas is quick, easy, and a great investment. It is $240 for 8 weeks of training, a Little Bellas custom bike jersey, a water bottle, a goodie bag, snacks, and a party.

Mountain Flyers

The Tuscaloosa Mountain Flyers  is open to all students 6th-12th grade. The Mountain Flyers are a co-ed middle school and high school mountain bike team that competes in the Alabama Cycling League. The season begins Dec 1st and continues through May.  The team competes with other high school teams in Alabama at six league races and a State Championship.

World Bicycle Day Ride: June 3, 2023 @ 8:30 am

Join us for a no rider left behind ride to celebrate World Bicycle Day! 

On June 3rd at 8:30 am, we'll gather at VeloCity Cycles and set off on a leisurely ride through some of the beautiful trails and roads in our area. Along the way, we'll enjoy each other's company and the beauty of nature.

After the ride, we'll gather back at the shop for a post-ride celebration, complete with donuts and coffee. 

This is the perfect opportunity to get out and ride with other cycling enthusiasts, celebrate the joy of biking, and show your support for the cycling community. We hope to see you there! Please sign-up by 7 am on June 3rd so we can get plenty of donuts and coffee for everyone. 

Ride On Brian Smith Memorial Ride: May 27

The Hank Poore Foundation is thrilled to present the 1st Annual Brian Smith Memorial Ride - Ride On. This will be a special event honoring Brian, who embodied everything that the The Hank Poore Foundation represents. The Memorial Ride features three routes: 20 miles, 37 miles, and 63 miles

Ride On will offer a post ride meal from Robertson’s BBQ.  Robertson’s is a favorite spot for local cyclists, including Brian.  We know you’ll love them too!

Intro to Rolling for Cyclists: May 22, 2023 @ 7pm

Roll into the week with this restorative class — we will use a massage recovery ball (think upgraded tennis ball) to release tension. Learn how myofascial release (trigger point work) can be as simple as rolling a ball along tight muscles. 

Free class - all you need is your mat and water bottle. A block may be helpful. The instructor will provide the recovery ball.

9th Annual Tuscaloosa Kids Triathlon: May 20th

You’re invited to take part in the 9th Annual Tuscaloosa Kids Triathlon. This event is a great way to promote healthy, active lifestyles for kids – while supporting a great cause, Secret Meals For Hungry Children.

We encourage children of all athletic abilities to participate. Race distances are very beginner-friendly. Helmets are required and flotation devices and training wheels are allowed. All participants will be awarded with medals. Awards to top three girls and boys in each age group will also be awarded.

Wondering if your child is ready to try a tri? The Learn to Tri - Training Clinic is a FREE introductory program designed to train youth in the fundamentals of triathlons, so they can participate in the Tuscaloosa Kids Triathlon. The Learn to Tri Kids Clinic will be hosted at Lake Lurleen on Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m.

Packet pick-up will be hosted at VeloCity Cycles on Friday, May 19th from 3-6 pm.

All-Levels: Yoga for Cyclists: May 15, 2023 @ 7pm

Let’s slow down on Monday, May 15th for Yin Yoga. This is a calm practice (rather than flowing through poses) that targets tendons and ligaments. We hold poses on the floor (or chair) for 3-5 minutes to achieve a deeper stretch. Breath work is also a focus. 

Class is free - all you need is a mat, water and a towel - other props (like blocks, straps, blanket or bolster) are welcome. Your body will thank you!

All-Levels: Yoga for Cyclists: May 8, 2023 @ 7pm

Calling all cyclists! Join us this Monday 5/8 from 7-8pm for an all-levels yoga practice designed specifically for cyclists. Our expert instructor will guide you through a series of poses that will strengthen and stretch your cycling muscles, with a focus on hip and spine alignment.

Bring your mat, some water, and blocks if you have them - that's all you need to join us!

Tadasana 101: Yoga for Cyclists: May 1, 2023 @ 7pm

How is your posture? Standing in alignment (or “mountain” pose) is challenging. Injury, imbalance or even tight muscles are common causes of bad habits and poor posture. If you're a cyclist looking to improve your posture on and off the bike, join us for Tadasana 101! This class will show you the principles of alignment and move through poses that will help you take the Tadasana blueprint to your cycling.

Intro to Yoga Nidra for Cyclists: April 17, 2023

VeloCity Cycles is hosting an beginner friendly yoga class geared for cyclists of any experience level. 

Join us for a free Introduction to Yoga Nidra for Cyclists class on Monday, April 17th at 7 pm.

Rest is key to our performance, and that's why we're excited to offer this guided rest practice also known as "conscious sleep" to help you reduce stress, improve your sleep, and explore mindfulness and meditation.

In this hour-long class, we'll start with some gentle movement and then drop into a state of deep relaxation with Yoga Nidra. So bring your mat and water, and feel free to bring a bolster or pillow for extra comfort.

Layering a long and short sleeve shirt is also recommended for your comfort. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or completely new to the practice, this class is perfect for cyclists of all levels who are looking to improve their performance and overall well-being.

Intro to Yin Yoga for Cyclists: April 10, 2023

VeloCity Cycles is hosting an beginner friendly yoga class geared for cyclists of any experience level. 

Join us this Monday, April 10th at 6 pm for a free, all-levels introduction to Yin Yoga. This calm, static practice is the perfect complement to your cycling routine, targeting tendons and ligaments (rather than muscles) for a deeper stretch and improved flexibility.

We will cut off the sign-up sheet once we have filled all 12 spots. Filling out this form does not guarantee a spot at the Yoga for Cyclists Class. Spots are allocated in order of first come, first serve. If we receive your information and you did not get a spot, we will send you a message at the number you provided to let you know.

VeloCity Cycles is hosting an beginner friendly yoga class geared for cyclists of any experience level. 

Join us on Sunday, April 2nd at 5pm at VeloCity Cycles for a rejuvenating practice designed specifically for any level of cyclist. This class is for people new to yoga, or those who are already practicing yoga! The class will help improve your flexibility, balance, and focus on the bike. 

Make sure to bring your own Yoga Mat, Towel, and Water Bottle.

Tuscaloosa Mountain Flyers Races: March 25-26

Come out to watch the middle school and high school teams race at Munny Sokol Park on March 25 and March 26th! The race schedules and information are posted on the Tuscaloosa Mountain Flyer Facebook page. 

ACA is looking for volunteers to help out at the race. Check out the link to the Volunteer Registration  for more information.

VeloCity Sunday Social Ride: Canceled

Join us on Sunday, March 26th at 3pm for a 31.5 mile “Social Ride." The ride will start and end at the VeloCity Cycles shop.

This is a experienced rider route that focuses on the social aspect of riding and creating a safe atmosphere for all riders. Experience in road cycling and helmets are required.

This week we are doing a chill 31.5 miles on the Sanders Ferry route to Dry Creek down Hulsey. It will be set your own pace and stop as needed. This route will have a section of traffic on HWY 11 and experience in pace lining is required.

After the ride, hang out with us at the shop and have a beverage!

VeloCity Saturday Beginner Ride: February 18, 2023 

This is a beginner friendly route that focuses on the social aspect of riding and creating a safe atmosphere for all riders, including kids! 

The ride will begin at 3 pm on Saturday, Feb 18, 2023

This week we are meeting at the Northport River Walk, a path that is 4.5 miles, but you can do as much or as little as you wish.  It will be set your own pace and stop as needed for water or a break. There will be no vehicle traffic, as the path is a multiuse paved sidewalk.

VeloCity Cycles Wrench'n Wednesday Workshop: Jan 19, 2023

Want to be prepared for when you have a flat on the road? Come to our bike repair workshop and learn how to properly change a flat tire on your road bike! All skill levels are welcome. 

Please bring your own bike and tools (spare tube, CO2, CO2 inflator, tire lever), or purchase a flat tire repair kit from us! 

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • How to fix a flat tire
  • How to properly inflate tires
  • Tips for maintaining the lifespan of your bike tires
